Connected Cars
Friday Nov 22, 2019
Friday Nov 22, 2019
How will connected and autonomous vehicles impact fleets, and what role can data play? In this podcast, LeasePlan’s experts look to the future. Listen now.
Cars are getting smarter. They’ve had some connectivity for years – sat nav, Bluetooth, diagnostics and telematics – but more and more vehicles are part of the Internet of Things through 3G and 4G mobile connections.
Around 4 million vehicles were connected in 2016, 8 million in 2018 and the figure is expected to hit 20 million by 2022.
What’s more, 5G is on the way and should provide massively greater speeds – and, therefore, the scope to do much more with car connectivity.
Matt Walters, LeasePlan’s Head of Consultancy and Customer Data Services, and Andy Rayner, an automotive industry expert, consider the opportunities; all the way to the possibilities of autonomous vehicles. This includes an exploration of the technology and its evolution, plus the role connectivity can play in fleet data and telematics.

Find out about the UK’s clean air zones – including London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone – in this podcast, hosted by experts from LeasePlan. Listen now.
Vehicle emissions are a big deal these days, particularly in cities, where the overall environmental impact is combined with specific concerns about air quality.
In this podcast, Matt Walters, LeasePlan’s Head of Consultancy and Customer Data Services, is joined by automotive industry expert Andy Rayner to discuss one potential solution to the challenge – clean air zones.
They look at the three strands to local authority plans – reduce, shift and improve – before broadening the debate to a wide range of topics, such as:
- London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone
- The roll-out from the T-Charge
- What other UK cities are planning
- Euro 6 compliant vehicles
- Why it’s time to start making a change in your fleets

Defining Fleet Risk
Friday Nov 22, 2019
Friday Nov 22, 2019
Find out how fleet managers can do to keep their drivers and other road users safe in this podcast, hosted by two fleet experts. Listen now.
Risk management essentially comes down to keeping people safe.
Between 2012 and 2017, around a quarter of all road casualties involved someone driving as part of their work.
According to Department for Transport figures, 2,631 people were killed in accidents involving someone driving as part of their work, 24,647 people were seriously injured, and 201,137 were slightly injured.
In the context of these statistics, LeasePlan’s Matt Walters, Head of Consultancy and Customer Data Services, and Andy Rayner, an automotive industry expert, consider what fleet managers can do to keep their drivers and other road users safe.
